Indigo forever inspires the passions of new generations with its distinctive blue hues. Nearly all indigo dye produced today for denim is synthetic, inspired by once rare dyes which were painstakingly extracted from botanicals. In the 18th and 19th centuries indigo was block-printed in patterns inspired by the region in India where the fabric originated.
